Meiosis starts with a diploid cell which contains 46 chromosomes. It replicates (92) and when it divides the first time, it is called a haploid cell. I though haploid cells were 23 chromosomes in humans. Is it called haploid even if the result is 46 chromosomes? The second division is also called haploid, but the number of chromosomes is only 23. Is haploid a relative term?
