What can I do if I don't want to set-up a tree?

I haven't set-up my Christmas tree but I would still like to get SOME stuff out. What do you think I can do to still make it like Christmas but with no tree? I have a taller desk like table and I was thinking I could cover it with a Christmas blanket and hang the stockings from the knobs on the drawers and put a few things on top. I have my son's first Christmas ornament though and I don't know what to do with that. Any ideas?
